Can vitamin A cause osteoporosis?

Chronic Vitamin A toxicity due to prolonged overdose of oral vitamin A can increase the blood and tissue concentration of retinoic acid. Retinoic acid can stimulate the osteoclast production and activity. Since the pathogenesis of osteoporosis is due to the action of osteoclasts over osteoblasts the chronic vitamin A toxicity can cause osteoporosis.
